Meet & Greet

Dalmahoy Hotel on the 27th of July

We will kick things off at the Dalmahoy Hotel just outside of Edinburgh featuring alfresco dining at the nearby Free Company. Here our hosts will take us for a tour of the working farm and share a seasonally-crafted meal with us using produce straight from the fields.

With its breathtaking scenery, Baronial Manor, incredible sunsets and views of Edinburgh Castle, Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is paradise. The hotel is set within 1,000 acres of parkland and you will never know you're just 7 miles from the centre of Edinburgh, our lively capital.

Day 1

Edinburgh to Knockderry House via Tweedsmuir

Heading South from The Scottish capital of Edinburgh, towards the picturesque village of Tweedsmuir, we will have our first pitstop of the day before continuing our journey west, toward the history-rich county of Ayrshire. We will meander along the stunning coastline which will lead us to our destination for the night, Knochderry Country House Hotel.

Day 2

Knockderry House to the Hame Hotel on the Isle of Skye

Day 2 will lead us right over and through some of the most iconic places on the Scottish west coast. We will start the day by riding parallel to the famous Loch Lomond and up into the imposing mountain range of Glen Coe. After lunch we will race against the clock, heading north to the first Ferry crossing of the day, The Corran Ferry which lands on the stunning Ardnamurchan Peninsula.

This corner of Scotland is renowned for its remoteness and undisturbed landscapes. We will head along mostly single-track roads, to our next ferry in Mallaig which will land on the largest island of the Inner Hebrides, The Isle of Skye. Here will we settle into ‘Hame’ for the next leg of the adventure.

Day 3

Hame Hotel to the Torridon Estate via Bealach na Bà

After a day of well deserved rest, we will leave the Isle of Skye and head back to the mainland and enjoy some of the most unparalleled riding found on the Scottish west  coast. As we make our way through the Strathconnon Glen we will turn toward the notorious Bealach na Bà in the Wester Ross region. This name is Gaelic and translates to ‘Pass of the Cattle’ and boasts an altitude of a whopping 2,054 feet above sea level with 20% gradients on the approach to its summit, giving it the title of ‘steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK’. This pass will then lead us into sweeping roads along the sea and into the Torridon Mountains, where we will conclude the day.

In the evening we will enjoy 'Tartan Tapas' complimented by live music by the owners of the Torridon Estate.

Day 4

Torridon Estate to Olrig House

On the fifth day, we will conquer the rest of the west while scrambling all of the way to the tip of Scotland and Durness. It is one of the longer days on the road, but this stretch offers a variety of roads as well as ever-changing scenery! We will pass through a handful of charming fishing villages for refreshments and quickly stretch our legs around Ullapool! Try some of the local cuisine at the world famous Seafood Shack. The north coast of Scotland offers some of the most wonderfully satisfying sweeping roads we know and desolate scenery.

Day 5

Olrig House to Newhall Mains Airfield

The morning will start with a stop at John O’Groats to enjoy the views over to the nearby Orkneys and a snap with your noble steed taken at the landmark 'Journey's End' signpost. Then the journey back south will begin all the way down the east coast of the country. We will head slightly inland towards Lairg where we will make a stop for lunch and  an opportunity to see wild salmon jumping as they make their incredible journey up the Falls of Shin . Following a private BBQ lunch at Mac n Wild, we continue south towards Inverness and over the Struy to the Black Isle for the night at Newhall Mains airfield for the evening.

We are in discussions with the airfield to include a special flying opportunity for those interested in experiencing the Highlands from 5,000 feet!

Day 6

Newhall Mains Airfield to Dalmahoy Hotel in Edinburgh

On our final day, we will leave the capital of the Highlands behind and ride east through the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. This will lead us through one of Scotland’s ski resorts. If the weather permits, the Lecht road will hopefully showcase the sheer scope of the Scottish landscape. The route offers twisties, blind summits and great open stretches that will take us down into Royal Deeside where we will make a pit stop in bonnie Braemar. Here, we'll take a break at the iconic Fife Arms for cakes, coffee and its rare art collection.

The next leg will take us back up the mountains and down through the Snow Roads – another picture postcard road. The day will finish with some great riding through Aberfeldy, Crieff and then to Edinburgh where we will conclude our journey.

Highland Scramble Special FAQ’s

CAN WE PUT THINGS IN THE SUPPORT VAN?

Yes - the support vehicle is available for extra luggage, tools and to pickup any breakdowns and can provide some emergency fuel just incase.

DOES THE TICKET PRICE INCLUDE FOOD AND DRINKS?

Food and soft drinks for breakfast and supper are included in the ticket price. You will need to cover your lunch costs.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY PLACE?

If something crops up and you are no longer able to scramble with us, as long as we know 90 days before the event, we’ll process a full refund, minus the deposit. If you need to cancel within 90 days of the event, we will refund 50% of the total, if we can sell your ticket then we will refund the ticket price you paid. Deposits are nonrefundable after 30 days.

IS THE RIDE HARD GOING AND WILL THERE BE SOME PROPER SCRAMBLING?

The route is designed with variety and some roads will be more challenging than others.  The ultimate goal is to go at your own pace and enjoy the beautiful scenes along the way. You may feel you want to push out of the comfort zone but we encourage you to ride to a level you feel safe and comfortable with. There is no off-road riding on The Special.

HOW MANY HOURS/MILES WILL WE BE RIDING EACH DAY?

We aim to Scramble for around 180-250 miles per day, depending on the type of roads we take. The smaller, twisty ‘B’ roads, we allow more time for and then the bigger ‘A’ roads are better for a bit of twist grip and road rip!  We anticipate each leg of the journey should be about 5-6 hours of riding, with breaks in between. Evening meals are aimed to be served around 7.30pm.

CAN WE TAKE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS?

Please do and shout from the roof tops! Each ride will be allocated a unique hashtag for sharing and following.

CAN WE JUST TURN UP ON THE DAY AND BE FULLY INVOLVED?

Unfortunately no, we can only offer accommodation, food and support to those who have paid in full for the tickets in advance. Come and join us for a scramble, a tea and some craic if you’re passing though!

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS ROUGH?

The Highland Scramble Special although luxurious, is not designed for the faint hearted. If weather conditions are abysmal then we will hold tight for a prolonged pitstop, however, we are not ‘the sunshine only’ club. Weather conditions that pose safety issues to our riders will be taken into account but the bottom line is, please come fully prepared and hope for the best!

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET LOST OR SEPERATED FROM THE GROUP?

Everyone participating will be at different levels of riding, we appreciate that. If you wish to go ahead or take your time, the route will be shared with you on a group chat. We will also send you the route in advance for you to study. The support vehicle is only a phone call away so don’t panic.

MY BIKE IS GREAT, BUT IS NOT RELIABLE, IF I BREAK DOWN, CAN YOU HELP?

Our support vehicle will be there to help along the way. We are equipped with tools and knowledge and can assist with a roadside repair or help pop the bike in the back. We can take you to the final destination of the day or a local garage / check-in somewhere, the choice is yours.

ARE THERE ANY EXTRA COSTS?

You are responsible for paying for your own fuel and any additional refreshments along the way. You will also need to pay for your lunches as well. The rest is sorted by your bikerbnb hosts and team. Extra activities like the distillery and boat ride on Skye are included in the price. There may be additional changes for flying.

ARE THE TICKET PRICES THE SAME FOR TWO PEOPLE ON ONE BIKE?

If you are bringing a pillion that is a partner and sharing the same accommodation / bed, we can offer special pricing. Please let us know so we can accommodate your needs.

I DON’T OWN A BIKE AT THE MOMENT, CAN I RENT ONE FROM BIKERBNB?

Yes, of course, we are now offering Triumph Street Scramblers for rental as long as you have maintained a full license for the past two years . Please speak to a member of the team for more info.
